Anyone who has ever tried to wrestle an armful of groceries into a car or haul a heavy piece of equipment knows how much of a hassle it is to open a trunk or liftgate. It's never fun, but Cadillac has provided a solution to this problem. If you own a newer Cadillac vehicle, it may be equipped with a hands-free liftgate and power trunk that you can open by moving your foot.
If you have this feature, approach your vehicle's back bumper, kick your leg out underneath the bumper's center, and pull it back. This triggers a sensor that will open the trunk or liftgate without using your hands. You will need to kick your leg out and pull it back in one smooth motion to get this to work; moving your leg from side to side underneath your back bumper won't do it.
You can even set the height of your liftgate if you need it to open wider. To do this:
- Select the 3/4 setting on the liftgate switch and open the liftgate as usual.
- When it gets to the desired height, stop it by pressing the liftgate button on your key fob or touchpad.
- Press and hold the button again until you hear a beeping sound, and your turn signal lights flash.
