The History of Cadillac

Cadillac proudly describes its history as "twelve decades of trend-setting designs." This trendsetter mentality is evident in models like the Escalade SUV, the STS sedan, and the LYRIQ electric vehicle. Cadillac's current lineup reflects a luxurious and forward-thinking ethos that has been thriving for over 120 years.

Cadillac In The Beginning

The Cadillac Automobile Company was established in 1902. While the world then was vastly different from today, Cadillac cars were already synonymous with luxury and innovation for the early automobile enthusiasts. Their initial models, the Tonneau and Runabout, boasted about 10 horsepower.

The company was named after Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac, the founder of Detroit in the 1700s. Even today, some Cadillac vehicles are still manufactured in Michigan. Between 1930 and 1950, Cadillac solidified its reputation as a leader in American luxury automobiles. Their designs were both reflective of their era and pioneering, characterized by the liberal use of chrome accents and the introduction of tailfins in the 1940s. During the 70s and 80s, Cadillac embraced new interior technologies and design trends. Responding to consumer preferences, their models became more compact, exemplified by the DeVille line of sedans and coupes.

From 2000 onwards, Cadillac has harnessed the remarkable advancements in technology from the past two decades. Their design philosophy, known as "Art and Science," showcases Cadillac's versatility and adaptability. This commitment to innovation and luxury has ensured that Cadillac remains a name that excites drivers and instills pride in ownership. Cadillac continues to set the standard with new models, including electric SUVs. Owning a Cadillac still signifies an investment in more than just mainstream automotive engineering; it represents a commitment to progress and elegance within an American automobile legacy.
