TWG Motorsports and General Motors have recently unveiled the formation of GM Performance Power Units LLC, a new company set to guide Cadillac into the world of Formula 1 vehicle and power unit development by the close of this decade. The newly formed company will be led by industry veteran Russ O'Blenes, who has been named CEO.
O'Blenes, with over 30 years of experience in motor racing engineering, is currently the director of GM Motorsports Propulsion and Performance. His notable career has seen him work on powertrain development for championship teams and award-winning production vehicles. He also led the establishment of the GM Performance and Racing Center in Pontiac, Michigan, and was instrumental in the rollout of GM's eCrate initiative for performance car builders.
The company has already begun working on its Formula 1 prototype engine technology, and a dedicated facility for Performance Power Units LLC is expected to open by 2026. Until GM's power units are fully approved for racing, the Cadillac Formula 1 Team will rely on Ferrari power units.
GM continues to drive innovation and shape the future of transportation with its Cadillac lineup, both on the racetrack and the road.
